iPad 2 - EyeTV Mobile Accessory by Elgato : Attention All European iPad owners! Ready to watch live TV on your iPad 2? Elgato has just announced its new EyeTV Mobile accessory for the iPad 2.If you want your iPad 2 to become a mobile television, then why not a DVR? The EyeTV Mobile accessory claims you can receive live TV broadcasts and also record TV shows directly to your iPad 2.Elgato has made the EyeTV Mobile specifically for the iPad 2. The integrated DTT/Freeview receiver allows the TV signal come straight to your iPad from a miniature telescopic aerial. So, you don’t need an Internet connection to receive TV broadcasts, while minimizing the impact on your data plan.The EyeTV Mobile connects to the iPad 2 via a 30-pin dock connector. Elgato will also release the EyeTV Mobile companion app, which provides a full range of TV viewing features including pause, rewind, and record.However there is one big caveat! The current product seems to be focused for Europe, where DVB-T is mostly used. Elgato claims the tuner will be able to pull in MPEG-2 streams over DVB-T, however it won’t work with DVB-T2 broadcasts like Freeview HD. We haven’t seen any information whether this product will ever offer an ATSC-compatible version. No information has been released yet.Elgato’s EyeTV Mobile accessory for the iPad 2 will set you back €100/£100, which might be a bit steep for consumers. Based on what we’ve seen, the new accessory is scheduled for release by end of September.
